Free up iPhone Storage Space
Monday, April 19, 2021
The amount of free storage on your iDevice can impact its performance more than you might think. When your iPhone or iPad reaches a near-full storage capacity it will slow down and can sometimes begin to freeze and crash. This certainly applies to your Macs as well!
Although there is almost no difference in performance when a device is 20% full or 50% full, or even 80% full, once a device gets close to 90% full, problems will arise. The style with which we use our iDevices is mostly an additive process. New emails and text messages are pulled in, software updates are downloaded, and photos, videos, and documents are being created and downloaded from various clouds all the time.
Below are some of the tips from a great Mac Rumors article that we find helpful:
1. Optimize iPhone storage using iCloud: This is a hugely helpful tip to save space on all Apple devices, by strategically storing photos, videos, documents and messages in iCloud, instead of locally on your device.
2. Change settings that automatically save locally. Apps like Dropbox and WhatsApp can be set to localize data which takes up space.
3. Delete unused apps. This one may seem obvious, and it’s where a lot of folks start when they are running out of storage space. Some apps are surprisingly large. And many, can always be downloaded again if you ever have the need.
