How to Clean your Mac

Monday, March 1, 2021

As a Mac user, there’s no better feeling than opening the box and pulling out a brand new Apple product. However, from that moment on, your Mac will only get dirtier and dirtier!  Wouldn’t it be nice to restore it to its pristine appearance? Or wouldn’t it be nice to guarantee that no COVID viruses were lingering around?

We get asked all the time about the best ways to clean Apple gear,  specifically Macs. Apple does too, and they’ve published some guidelines to help us.

Let’s explore their recommended tips:

  • Use only a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cloths, towels, paper towels, or similar items.
  • Avoid excessive wiping, which might cause damage.
  • Unplug all external power sources, devices, and cables.
  • Keep liquids away from the product, unless otherwise noted for specific products.
  • Don’t get moisture into any openings.
  • Don’t use aerosol sprays, bleaches, or abrasives.
  • Don’t spray cleaners directly onto the product.

You can use an alcohol wipe (70 percent isopropyl alcohol is the minimum alcohol percentage recommended) and you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Please don’t use bleach.  Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don’t submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents. We recommend applying the cleaning solution to your cloth, NOT to your device.

When we work on your Apple product we always wipe down the screen and keyboard with an alcohol wipe before and after working on it, so it’s germ free, COVID proof, and looking beautiful!
