Apple Repair Program for MacBook Pro Display
Monday, January 18, 2021
This week Apple announced that they will be extending a program that covers the cost of a display replacement for certain 13” MacBook Pro laptops.
Apple launched the program in 2019 after determining that a “very small percentage” of 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops may exhibit vertical bright areas along the bottom of the display or a backlight that stops working completely.
Any 13” MacBook Pro that has a manufacture year of 2016 and is experiencing display issues is likely eligible. Apple has not expanded the program to any other MacBook models at this time.
To identify which Mac model you have, click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and then select “About This Mac” in the menu. Here you will see a variety of different details including the size, model and year of manufacture.
If you have an affected model and it’s experiencing display issues - you have up to five years after the original purchase date or up to three years after the start date of the program (May 2019), whichever is longer. The previous cutoff was four years after the original purchase date.
From time to time Apple acknowledges design and manufacturing defects in their products, and creates a program like this one that allows for customers to get them fixed at no cost. This particular display issue is not very widespread, but if if happens to you, you’ll be happy to know that you can get a new display for free!
