Two Ways to Improve Your Holiday Shopping List with Apple Notes

Sunday, November 29, 2020

If you’re using Apple Notes to store your holiday shopping list this year - taking advantage of these two features in Apple Notes will keep your list more secure, and better organized.

Use Checklists.

In the Notes app on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Locate the checklist button, which is a check mark inside of a circle. On the Mac, this button is at the top of the Notes window, and on iPad and iPhone it’s found floating above the on-screen keyboard. Click or tap this button to insert a checklist in your note.

Once you have a checklist created, you can list your holiday shopping items here, and check them off as you purchase them. Checked items in the list will automatically sort themselves to the bottom of the list, leaving only the un-checked items at the top. This is a great way to keep track of what has already been purchased, and what you still need to buy.

Lock your Notes.

If the person you’re buying for has access to your devices, they may accidentally (or intentionally!) see your notes. If you want to keep your holiday shopping list secured, and safe from prying eyes - take advantage of the locking feature.

Locate the padlock icon in the top of the Mac Notes window, and after clicking this you’ll be prompted to set a password for your note. You’ll need to use this password every time you view or edit the note, so don’t make it too hard to remember!

On your iPhone or iPad - you’ll need to long-press on the note you’d like to lock while looking at the full list of your notes. In the pop-over window that will appear, “Lock Note” will be an available option. If you select “Lock Note” you’ll be asked to set a password. Once you have a password for the note you’ll be able to use the password, Touch ID, or Face ID to get into the locked note.

Taking advantage of these features in Apple Notes will ensure that your holiday shopping list stays organized, and discrete!
