Apple to Release macOS 11 Big Sur on November 12th
Tuesday, November 10, 2020
Today, Apple held their third and (probably) final product announcement of the year. They updated three of their most popular Mac model. The MacBook Air, the 13” MacBook Pro, and the Mac Mini are going to be the first Apple computers to feature a new processor made entirely by Apple—the M1.
These new Macs feature improvements in overall speed and performance as well as a significantly longer battery life. All of the products that were announced today are available to order today and should ship in about a week. As soon as we get our hands on one, we’ll put them through our testing and have as much insight as possible to see if they fit your needs.
The even better news of the day is that macOS 11 Big Sur will be available for download on all supported Macs on Thursday November 12. This next version of the Mac operating system is the biggest visual and graphic overhaul we’ve seen in over a decade. Exciting new features such as control center for the Mac and big improvements to the Messages and Photos apps are in store.
As usual, we don’t recommend updating your Mac on Day 1. Depending on the applications you use, the projects you’re working on, and the workflows you’ve established, it may not be wise to update on day 30 or even day 100. Typically it takes a few weeks for Apple to work out a few kinks on these new releases, especially when there are so many changes coming. This update looks to be a fairly significant change, so proceed with caution, and reach out to us if you have any questions about whether it’s the right time to upgrade.
