(Another) Apple Product Announcement
Monday, November 2, 2020
Today Apple announced that there will be yet another product announcement this fall. After releasing a new iPad in September, and new iPhones in October, Apple is rumored to be releasing new Mac laptops in the event that’s planned for November 10th. These new computers will more than likely include new “Apple Silicon” processors, and may feature a new physical design for the machines.
In early September Apple announced that they would be moving away from Intel as the main manufacturer of Mac processors, and will instead be using their own processors made in house. These continuity between processor, hardware and software will (reportedly) allow Apple to give their computer line a big boost in performance and efficiency. This means faster computers, with better battery life, and quieter (or no) fans.
We’ll have to wait until next week to see what the specifics of these models will bring, but in addition to being able to run iPhone and iPad apps on the Mac - we’ll be keeping our eye out for some familiar hardware features from the iPhone and iPad making their way to macOS as well. Innovative hardware features like Face ID and Apple Pay are made possible on iOS devices by Apple-made chips. Now that Apple chips will be in Apple’s computers we may see some of these features, or some new ones in our laptops and desktops soon.
